When I was in Lower 6, I agreed to be in a production of Volpone. We had a head of English - Mr Egerton - who was quite cool. The other attraction was that it was to be a joint production with the girls from Ribston Hall.
I was to play a lawyer in the court scenes ( a shit role), but after a few weeks of rehearsals, Mr Egerton got tired of Lawrence Peach (Upper 6, cool and good looking) not turning-up, and he told me to learn the part of Bonario.

Bonario is accused of having an affair with the beautiful Celia, wife of the nasty legacy-hunter, Corvino.

Getting a bigger part was good, but the person playing Celia was Jayne Brightwell. And, she hadn’t spoken to me since her father had kicked me out of their house. The three performances went well - even the one that Mr Brightwell attended - and, despite her having a boyfriend, Jayne and I found somewhere quiet during the final-night party and finished-off what we had started on the Saturday afternoon two years before. Bravo! Encore!
